The Paper Wildlife Conservancy

Since 2016 The Paper wildlife Conservancy  Project has sought to highlight the ways urban ecology and public art can positively shape community identity. During the Summer of 2016 over 150 hand drawn and hand printed animals will be released onto predetermined “habitats” located throughout five key business districts in Saskatoon. These animals were ‘bred’ (drawn and printed) and monitored by the PWC's chief conservation officer, Cate Francis. In addition to some more recent murals. many of these original releases can still be spotted around the city today. In 2021 we will be completing some all new full color installations in the Broadway district during the Saskatoon Fringe Festival . We invite you to engage with this project and share your sightings via social media using the hashtag #paperwildlife

All of our installations find their habitats on Treaty 6 territory the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dene, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, and Métis nations. We acknowledge the long and vibrant history of these traditional Indigenous lands. We hope that our work inspires you to consider your own connections to land, place and history and we welcome you to share your own ecological sightings and stories with us via email and social media.
